She kissed his neck and spoke seductively into his ear.  “There’s a good chance we made a baby last night.”

“What?  How do you know?”

Vicki remained where she was and breathed her words.  “I can count,” she teased.

Wilson put a hand to his forehead.  “Are you ready?”

Vicki nibbled on his earlobe.  “Oh, yeah.”

The sensual woman was a constant turn on to Wilson and he held her to him, hoping to fill her once more before they left their love nest.

With each passing day their love grew stronger and with every new day the subject of the discovered money was not broached.  Neither of them wanted to end the bliss that had become their lives.  Vicki’s hopes were raised every month as she waited to feel the hardening of her belly once again, but after six months she feared that it would never happen.  Wilson wanted to take her away for a long weekend, but Vicki refused, fearing that something or someone would tear her world apart while she was gone.  She was happy here with Wilson.

“What if we go away for only one night?”  He looked at her with pleading eyes and Vicki finally gave in.

“Promise me we’ll return first thing in the morning.”

Wilson raised an eyebrow.  “That may not be the first thing we do in the morning.”

Vicki smiled.  She would never tire of him.  They made love at least once a day and she knew she was the luckiest woman in the world.

Wilson took Vicki to a quaint bed and breakfast about a half hour drive from their home.  The cottage was beautiful, tucked away in the woods, and each bedroom with its own view of the lake.

“Wilson, I had no idea this place was here.”

“A guy at work told me about it.  He brings his wife here all the time.”  He winked at her which Vicki thought was odd.

It was sunset when they arrived and Wilson opened the door to a beautiful suite, but Vicki was sure there had been a mistake.  “Wilson, this is a honeymoon suite.  I think they made a mistake.”  Right there in the most picturesque setting, Wilson got down on bended knee and presented Vicki with a diamond ring.  Vicki gasped, but immediately said yes to the proposal.  “I would marry you with or without a ring, Wilson.”  He started to take back the ring, but she grabbed it out of his hand.  “Give me that.”  The white gold surrounded by another band of onyx was a perfect symbol of the two of them, with the shining diamond adding a touch of elegance that was fit for a queen.  “You had this made just for me, didn’t you?”

“It’s unique, don’t you think?”

Vicki nodded.  “It’s as unique as we are.  Let’s have matching wedding bands, too.”

“Already done,” he said, pulling matching bands of white gold from his pocket.

“Guess this means you’re serious.”

“We’re getting married tonight, Vicki, before you change your mind.”

Vicki felt swept away by the romantic event.  It was as if she had designed it herself.  Wilson’s boss and his wife were the only two present other than the minister.  Vicki had already done the big wedding ‘thing’ with her first husband and she was thrilled not to have to deal with the chaos a second time.

The bed and breakfast was owned by Wilson’s boss and the family man had arranged for Wilson and Vicki to be the only guests for the night.  A bottle of champagne was waiting for them upon their return to the honeymoon suite, and after a glass of the bubbly, the two lovebirds lay naked together in the Norman Rockwell setting.  Wearing only their wedding rings, they made love long into the night, until they were exhausted.  They slept as they always did, wrapped in flesh and love.  With Wilson’s warm body around her, Vicki held him firmly inside of her and closed her eyes as the sun came up.

The midday sun was streaming into the little room and Vicki opened her eyes with a warm and cozy feeling.  Wilson was sleeping soundly and Vicki rubbed her legs against her husband’s gorgeous body.  Her ring caught the light and sparkled just as brilliantly as she was sparkling.  She couldn’t believe how lucky she had been.  Wilson was everything she could have imagined in a husband and more than she had ever expected.  Adrift in a sea of dreams, she was becoming aroused by the man whose wife she had become less than twenty-four hours earlier.  She caressed his arms and ran the tip of her fingers along his spine causing him to shiver.  She felt him grow inside of her and then he looked up at her.

“Morning, Mrs. Jones.”

Vicki giggled softly and opened herself to her amazing lover.  “Don’t we have a checkout time?” she asked after they had made love again.

“We can spend the weekend if we want.  It’s your choice, Mrs. Jones.”

Vicki smiled.  How could she not stay another night in the beautiful countryside?  “Let’s stay,” she said as she kissed him.

They were the only guests in the dining room where they fed each other a home cooked meal made especially for them.  They took a walk in the woods and swam naked in the heated water of the springs.  Vicky had never swum naked before and the warm stimulating water caused the sensual woman to quickly gravitate toward her husband.  He wrapped Vicki’s legs around him and eased into her depths.  The pulsing water made her climax quickly and she held tightly to her husband.

Wilson kissed his wife’s wet lips, igniting greater passion inside of his beautiful wife.  “What will I do when you grow tired of me?” he teased.

“Mmm, that will never happen.  I can’t get enough of you.”

When they were once again in the comfy bed of the honeymoon suite, they wrapped themselves around each other, and Vicki admitted that she was glad they stayed for the entire weekend.  “I can’t remember when I felt this relaxed,” she said as she drifted off to sleep with her husband beneath her.  Wilson smiled as he looked up at the ceiling.  He knew that getting away was the best thing for his new bride.  She had felt guilty about not getting pregnant again and a change of scenery had seemed to help ease her mind.  Vicki becoming his wife was icing on the cake.  In their hearts, they had been married long before their honeymoon.

When they walked through the door of their home, the aroma of a delicious meal was unexpected to Vicki.  They walked into the kitchen and Wilson said, “It was catered; a gift from my boss.”

“How did they know the exact time we would be here?”

“I called him right before we left the country.”

The dish was foreign to Vicki, but delicious.

“It’s Middle Eastern cuisine.”

“It’s wonderful.”  Vicki was famished.

“The country air agrees with you.  The boss said we can stay there anytime we like.”

“How about every weekend?”

Wilson took her hand in his.  “Anything you want.”

***

When Wilson went off to work and life returned to normal, Vicki decided to paint the bedroom a cheerier color.  She had felt so at home in the country cottage that she wanted to feel the same way in this big house.  A nice warm yellow should work, she thought, as she opened the can of paint.  After a few rollers, she opened the closet door to wind up the music box when she noticed some old carpet scraps.  She thought they would work for a front door rug and she began to unroll the leftover fragments.  They were dusty and Vicki’s eyes began to water.  She took the carpet out of the closet and let it unroll on the floor.  At the very center was a receipt of some kind.  When she picked it up, it nearly fell apart.  It was old and Vicki couldn’t quite read the date.  Many of the details had faded, but the ones that remained nearly caused her to retch.  It was an explanation for the money they had found hidden in the basement.  She had uncovered a receipt for payment in full of hundreds of slaves that had been returned to their owners by none other than her own kin.  The receipt had accompanied the money but for some reason it had been kept separate from the cash.  The receipt stated that the money was payment in full and belonged to the owner of the house.

“That was years ago,” Vicki said out loud.  “The money belongs to my family…me, for returning Wilson’s family…to…slave owners?”  She put her hand over her mouth.  She couldn’t let Wilson know about this.  He was a proud man and this would kill him.  She had lost his baby, and now this?  When Vicki finished reading the entire document, she ran to the bathroom and threw up.  She felt weak and dizzy and fought to pull herself onto the bed.  A deep voice calling her name much later awoke her.

“Vicki, honey, are you okay?”

“Wilson?”

“I’ve been calling your name since I came home.  The house was dark.  What happened?”

Vicki sat up slowly.  “I must have fallen asleep.”

Wilson looked at the partly painted room.  “You were painting?”

“I thought it would be more homey, you know, like the cottage in the woods.”

“We can go there whenever you want.”  There was something different about Vicki and it frightened Wilson.

“I should get dinner ready.”

“I think we’ll order in tonight.  You’ve been sleeping a lot lately.”

Vicki yawned.  “I guess so.”

“Well, tomorrow we’re going to find out why.  I’m taking you to the doctor.”

“What about work?”

“Work can wait.  You come first.”

Neither of them was prepared for the results of the lab work.  The doctor waltzed into the room where Vicki and Wilson were anxiously waiting.  “You’ve done it again, big guy.  You’re pregnant, Vicki.”

“What?  But I’m not sick and I’m not getting fat.”

“Every pregnancy is different.  It’s much better to be tired than sick, and as for the fat, that will come.  You’re nearly three months along.”

Vicki pressed on her gut that didn’t feel hard at all.

“It can take awhile before you feel the hardness,” the doctor assured her.

Vicki didn’t realize she was being watched and she felt a little embarrassed.  “But nothing on me is bigger,” she protested.

“You will notice fuller breasts in time.”

“Are you sure I’m pregnant?”

The doctor laughed.  “Blood doesn’t lie.  Here are the markers.”

Vicki stared at the sheet of paper that she didn’t fully understand, and then she looked at Wilson.  He was shocked, but thrilled.  He was the one who was glowing.

“Take care of yourself.  Sleep while you can.”

Then Vicki began to cry.  She couldn’t stop.  She just sat there and sobbed.

“Honey, what’s wrong?”

“Well, my dear, I would say that’s a clear sign that you’re expecting.”

“You don’t understand, doctor.  I can’t lose another baby.”  She thought she would hyperventilate as she tried to breathe and cry at the same time.

“There is no reason why you can’t carry this baby full term.  Try not to worry.  Find a quiet place where you feel at home…a special room…whatever it takes, understand?”

Vicki nodded.

“And do everything you love to do…everything…no restrictions.”  He winked and this time it was Wilson who was blushing.

Vicki blew her nose and promised to follow the doctor’s orders.  She was quiet on the drive home, with Wilson doing his best to engage her in conversation.  When he returned to work, he kissed her goodbye.  “It’s going to be fine, Vicki.  You’ll see.”

While Wilson was gone one day, Vicki tucked the document she had found into her purse and tried to forget about it.  Two more weeks went by and she still saw no signs of a budding pregnancy.  Wilson noticed her steady decline as she became more and more depressed and he knew he had to get her out of the big house.  The house was always dark when he came home from work, the curtains drawn, and Vicki was lying in the big bed staring at the wall.

“Let’s go for a ride,” he said one Friday night when he came home from work.

“I don’t really feel like it, but thanks,” she said, not looking at him.

Wilson had packed their bags the night before and after he loaded them into the car, he scooped Vicki into his arms and carried her down the stairs.

“Wilson, no, I’m tired.”

“You have no choice in the matter,” he said with a stern look on his face.

“But I’m supposed to be pregnant.”

“You are pregnant, my dear, and what you are doing is not good for the baby.”

Vicki sat in the car with tears streaming down her face.  “You know I wouldn’t hurt the baby, but I want you to take me home.”

“That’s what I’m doing.”

Vicki stared out at the trees as they drove into the woods and wondered what her husband was up to.  When they stopped at the cottage where they had become husband and wife, Vicki gave Wilson a questioning look.  “Why are you doing this?”  The tears started again, and Wilson opened the car door for her.

“Honey, you loved it here.”

“But I have to leave at the end of the weekend, so it’s better not to come at all.  Don’t you see?”

Wilson wiped the tears from Vicki’s face and kissed her softly.  “This time we’re not leaving.  You will stay here with Mr. and Mrs. Adler while I’m at work.  You loved Mrs. Adler, remember?”

“I guess so.”

“She could use your help, Vicki.  She’s not a young woman and she needs someone to plan meals and make sure the guests are comfortable.  Trust me, I’m not asking you to do hard labor.”
