“Fuck,” she said as her back collided into Marcel’s. “Let me go.”

“You’ll thank me for this later,” Marcel said softly as the shadows that had only been around her arm began to embrace them and she lost sight of everything, though the sight of Devdan’s crumpled body on the ground stayed impressed on her brain even the shadows eventually forced their way into her mind and into slumber.

Epilogue

Out of all the curious things that Tsubame had witnessed in the last few months in this alternate universe, the sight before her had to be the most curious. In the last few centuries, she had seen her male guardian go through many lovers, but he had never been this attentive with them, at least not outside of sex.

As she watched him hold and stroke her alternate self’s hair she said, “Poor thing. I think I might have traumatized her.”

“You think?” he replied.

Tsubame shrugged. “She’ll get over it, Hakim. Or should I call you Marcel?”

“Fuck off, Tsubame.”

Tsubame grinned. “What? I like it. Rolls off the tongue nicely. Sounds sexy.”

He glared at her and Tsubame rolled her eyes.

“You’re so fond of her. And here I though only I could inspire that kind of fondness.”

“I think my relationship with you goes beyond fondness after all this time. This,” he said looking down at the girl in his lap, “This is different.”

“Different,” Tsubame repeated.

“Jealous?” he teased.

“Never.”

“You two are seriously fucked up. You know that?” Nika said.

“It’s not something I try to deny,” Tsubame said with a shrug as she looked at her double.

“So, now that we have her, what are we going to do with her? Why did you want her to begin with? Why did you take the fall for something the Magic Council was going to frame her for?” Nika asked.

Tsubame laughed, stroking the sleeping girl’s cheek with her finger as she said, “Because, I’m going to make her a queen.”
