The Forgiven
is the first book in my new Amish series, Keepers of the Promise. Three cousins are drawn by their grandmother into helping preserve the story of their Amish family in America. Each book will combine a story from the present with one from an important point in the past of the Amish community.

I became fascinated with the impact of World War II on the Plain community in America, and the more I learned, the more I was captured. Their story presents a powerful dilemma: How can a person be both a good citizen and a pacifist during a time of war? I hope you'll find much to think about in the story of Anna and Jacob's response.
