They spent a good week and had lots of fun. They went to movies or out to eat. Sometimes they just stayed at Casey’s house.  On the last day, they were sitting on the porch and the sun was setting. He turned to look at her and something about her made him lean over and kiss her. Long story short, Luis freaked and left without saying goodbye. 

Lucy didn’t come to visit again for two years. Once again, the girl was dressed frilly, but now wore stylish clothes. It became annoying. The little voice in his head telling demanding he kiss her again. Especially since back then, he had been dating Shelly. The only thing to do was to start calling her prissy and city girl. It was the truth. She didn’t know the difference between the front and the back end of a horse. “It’s better if I keep her away from me.” A pang of remorse hit when a sad look crossed her features.

What the idiot Luis didn’t know was that Lucy had woken way before he did. She had already bathed and hopped right back into bed when she heard him heading her way. It annoyed her that at any given moment, he just barged into her room. She should have said no, when the Codey’s asked her to stay with them instead of at the dorms.

He knew nothing about her. Luis just assumed who she was and that was it. Decision made without even getting to know her.  When Lucy was sure he left, she ran downstairs and went to meet Casey. She was dressed in her favorite flannel shirt and old jeans. The books were old but broken in perfectly.

The moment she stepped out, Casey was there waiting with a horse for her. They did this every morning. “Judging by that scowl on your face. I take it Luis gave you a hard time this morning again?” 

“Sometimes I think I really hate that man,” Her friend laughed as she grabbed hold of the saddle and pulled herself up.  

“You know, you could avoid all this. Just tell him you’ve been doing chores every morning with me since you got here.” 

“Honey, now where’s the fun in that.” They both laughed. “I still can’t believe he doesn’t realize the chores get done faster now or question why?” Lucy frowned.

   “As long as we start at the end of the ranch. While they start at the beginning, he’ll never know.”

  “Who has the munchkin?” Lucy asked and Casey just smiled. “Gran has her at the house, she just loves little Hope.”   Lucy thought about the first time she visited the Codey ranch as they made their way to the far end of the land.
