“We know the City is your home,” Ella said, “but it’s not ours. We have a home back in Snow Peak. We have friends and families waiting for us.”
Charlotte lowered her head. “I understand. I’ll follow you back to Snow Peak, and stay for a day or two, and then I’ll return on my own.”
“If you change your mind, you’re always welcome to live with us. You’re one of us now.”
“Thank you. You are all great friends.”
Alan looked at Izzy, who was huddled up in the corner of the raft. “What are we going to do with her?”
“Bring her back with us,” Rupert said. “What other option do we have? We can take care of her in Snow Peak.”
Izzy’s eyes widened. “I want to go home. I want to see my dad.”
They all looked down. None of them had the heart to tell her. Charlotte held her arms. “Honey, your father has moved on.”
“What do you mean, moved on?”
“He’s passed away.”
Her eyes began to water. “What?” She tried to speak, but the words were only mumbles as tears poured from her eyes. Charlotte leaned in to hug her, rocking back and forth against the waves of the ocean. The others watched, all too sad to say anything
As they sailed through the water in a bout of sorrow, Vince watched the City in the distance. He watched the endless wall. The Spire. The smoke. The explosions. It was the same scene he had watched coming in, only this time, Saul was not by his side.

About The Author:
Chris Yee grew up in Needham, Massachusetts. As a young child, he had a wild imagination, thinking up stories of mystery and wonder. People would ask what he wanted to be when he grew up, and the answer was always the same. He wanted to be an author. As he grew older, educational interests pulled him away from the world of writing and into math and science. He attended Northeastern University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering. He now works in Boston, full-time as an engineer. Despite his technical background, he never lost an interest in writing. He writes every day, to fulfill a passion that has never faded.
