“As I mentioned outside,” she said, trying to continue their conversation, “I want to hire you.”

Mr. Wolf unfastened his gun belt and laid it on the bale of straw. Then he untied the leather thong securing a second weapon to his thigh and placed a long-bladed knife next to his gun. He turned then, scratching his bare chest and meeting her gaze as if just remembering her presence.

She licked dry lips, focusing on Charlie’s hand gliding up and down his bronze skin. She had felt his strength only moments before and her arm still tingled where he’d touched her.

Muscles in his chest rippled as he rubbed his nipple. She couldn’t help herself. Her gaze skated lower, examining the colorful loincloth that covered his groin. Naomi’s throat tightened, making it difficult to speak even if she could find words to say.

Naomi, most people don’t want to think about what to do. Tell them. Give them directions and take charge of the situation.
She tried, as her sister had always advised, to assume a position of success.

Although it was impossible to picture the bounty hunter doing anything for her, she had to convince him to pursue the kidnappers. She realized belatedly that she had neglected introducing herself.

Before she could remedy that oversight, Mr. Wolf pointed at the trough as though it held some significance of which she should be aware.
